We are much blessed to have partners – they come in a number of guises. Your parish /group could be among them
At the heart of our mission is the partnership of Grace and St. James and St Matthew’s church and school.
At a higher level the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti that through its Partnership Program oversees scores of such transnational partners: parishes, dioceses, colleges, schools, and health clinics. For example there are over 200 educational institutions, of all levels, under the aegis of the Diocese of Haiti – St Matthew’s is one. Always, there are opportunities for new such partnerships.
Most heartening is how time and steady support of one mission attracts some to collaborate, and impels others to strike out on their own. As a pearl in an oyster, layers accrete.
Foremost is Food for the Poor, Haiti, led by Rev. Ogé Beauvoir, sometime suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of Haiti, which supplies rice and beans for the school lunch. A child does not learn on an empty tummy – school lunch is a vital component of a successful school. A secure site to store food and accountable distribution is vital to Food for the Poor’s purpose. That’s partnership!
Lamentably, fully trained teachers are scarce in Haiti. Anseye pou Ayiti (Teach for Haiti ) is a local NGO which provides advanced training. St Matthew’s is one of the schools in which it places its graduates. Leadership of these individuals has improved the teaching in all grades.
A school is not just an academy, it is a center for community. A secure, clean, site enables Health4Haiti to provide medical clinics when its missioners visit nearby Gonaïves.
